Spring Drink: Blood Orange Margarita

This señorita needs a margarita! Now that spring is here we are utilizing the fruits of the season, blood orange being one of them! Blood oranges are in season from December to May, so be sure to get as much of this beautiful and delicious fruit while you can! For today’s Blood Orange Margarita, you can take these ingredients to a weekend bbq or a taco Tuesday get together.

 

 

What You’ll Need:

  • 4 oz Tequila
  • 2 oz Triple Sec
  • 6 oz fresh blood orange juice
  • Juice of two limes
  • Pinch Sugar or Stevia, optional
  • Kosher or Sea Salt, for rimming edge of glass, optional
  • Lime wedges, for garnish

 

 

Before making the drink, you’ll want to prep your margarita glasses. First rub the rims of two glasses with a sliced lime wedge. Then pour kosher salt or sea salt onto a plate and spread out evenly. You’ll dip the rims of glasses onto the plate of salt until evenly coated. Using table salt will get the job done, however there will be a significant amount of salt on the rim compared to using kosher or sea salt.
Now making the margarita! In a shaker, add a cup of ice, then add the tequila and triple sec. Then pour in 6 oz. of blood orange juice and squeeze two limes on top of this. Lastly add in a pinch of sugar and shake your ingredients well. Fill your glasses with ice and pour the margarita into the glasses. You can always add slices of the blood orange to the margarita for extra flavor and a pretty garnish. Add lime wedges to the rim of the cup, sip, and enjoy!
